Blogtarded Are Welcome!

Hopefully those of you reading this are doing so because my begging and pleading worked! I am aware that many of you have never blogged before, and in an effort to show you how easy and un-scary it is, I am making my own personal first blog post (that's right, I've never blogged before) a bit of a how-to. Wow, they should create a whole category for how -to.

Since I'm obviously truly blogtarded, I will be referencing other, more smarter, (yep, I said more smarter) resources to further your/our bloging knowledge. But to start with the basics, why don't you -the reader - go ahead and sign up for a blog yourself, and we'll go through this together. I know that having the blind leading the deaf is probably not the most efficient way to go about things, but we all have to start somewhere!

The first trick I learned on this blog site is to switch to a fancier admin interface. Sounds complicated, but it was totally easy, and allows me to do way cooler things than the default setting of the simple admin interface allows. For example, with the fancier version, I can do cool things like create a link to my brilliant husband's handy blog tips. I'm quite proud of myself for putting a working link right there! The reason it was so easy for me to do that was because in my advanced admin setting, there is a button that allows me to do that with one click.

To change your settings so that you can do nifty tricks like I did just now, set up a blog on this site by clicking the Get Your Own Blog in the top right corner.  Login and click Setup at the top of your screen.  Then click User Preferences which is the first category in the right column of subjects. There will be a drop-down menu titled Choose Blog Admin Interface. Set it to Advanced and hit the Update Preferences button just beneath. Now go back to the main page and you will see a lot more options through the whole admin.

I'll try to post more handy tips over the next few days, but if you are like me, that was MORE than enough tech talk for one sitting!
