Champions Barcelona bounced back from a dismal week to return to the top of the Spanish league with a 6-1 crushing of Real Zaragoza on Sunday night.

 Disgraced South Korean cloning researcher Hwang Woo-suk on Monday was convicted of embezzling money and illegally buying human eggs, according to state media.

Hwang, who gained fame in 2004 when he claimed to be the first person to have cloned human embryonic stem cells, received a two-year pearl jewelry prison sentence and three years' probation, Yonhap reported.

Further details were not immediately available about the court proceedings, which were sparked by Hwang's cloning research. In 2006, the scientist admitted faking his findings.

Reports of his studies had attracted worldwide attention and enthusiasm from researchers and patients excited about their potential for treating diseases such as cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel's party, the Christian Democratic Union, will formally join with two other parties on Monday to form a new center-right government.

"The government will not allow any recruitment of anyone in Kenya for any activity touching on foreign nations. Neither will recruitment of Kenyans for work in Somalia be allowed," said a statement from government spokesman Alfred Mutua, issued earlier this month."
